Remembering to write in my blog

….is apparently quite a difficult thing to do. I think I need to actually have a point to it for me to remember to use it, though.

An update on Burma: Right now, Burma is getting some well-needed press about the peaceful protesting that is taking place in Rangoon and cities all over the country. I’m sure many people don’t realise exactly how much danger those brave people are putting themselves in by walking in the streets and asking for their basic human rights to be realised. This is a country where you can be imprisoned, tortured, and forced to work as slave labour just for distributing flyers. Women are raped as a way to ‘ethnically cleanse’ the tribal populations, children are snatched off the street and sent to the army (an army with the highest number of child soldiers in the world). The bravery of the Burmese people cannot be underestimated, and I urge anyone who learns of their plight to take action. Sign a petition; donate to the US Campaign for Burma or the Burma Campaign UK; email Ban Ki-Moon and ask him to take definitive action against the generals. Even a small gesture goes a long way to creating a wave of attention and, we hope, will finally turn the tide of oppression and brutality in this once-beautiful country.
