“If we had but world enough, and time…”

This was one of several quotes that came to mind the other day. Halfway through a great audition that I thought I would be totally right for, the issue of ‘conflicts’ came up. Sadly, having a mortgage to pay and food that needs to go in my tummy, I couldn’t quite give the company the totally open schedule that they wanted. I had thought that most non-profit companies were aware of actors’ needs to get paid for things, and if they weren’t paying you, someone else was going to have to and that meant you didn’t get the monopoly on their schedule. I would have loved to do the show, but unless a trust fund was about to magically appear, there wasn’t much of a chance.

Ah well. Back to the auditions we go, and back to work today.
