Traction

In my fourth year of living in the city that never sleeps, I feel that I’m finally getting some traction in my career. I was part of a short film shoot on Sunday (albeit as an extra, but every experience helps), I’ve been getting solid work in theatre for most of this year with more planned for the start of 2009, I got cast for another short film (this time as a lead!) without even needing an audition and I have my first EPA (Equity Principal Audition) next Tuesday for a play that I am very well suited for. Of course, EPAs involved getting in the queue at 7 o’clock in the morning to get the first audition slot, and there are a hundred other people going for the same part who are better looking, have Broadway credits, know the director and have a better education than you. But I’m finally realising that I just have to do right by myself, and everything will fall into place. So if I don’t get a callback – that’s ok. I’m excited to go to my first EPA and it will teach me a lot for future auditions – and if my experiences with off-off-Broadway theatre and indie film have taught me anything, they have taught me patience and perseverance. You don’t get the great role first time around. You’re usually not ready for it anyway.

Exciting times lie just around the corner…
